BOVEDA, the Bolivian Vegetation Ecology Database: first stage, the Chacoan forests

Bolivia is a country exceptionally rich in biodiversity and home to about 20,000 vascular plant species 15 formations. Therefore, it particularly important document the of this territory. The aim Bolivian Vegetation Ecology Database (BOVEDA; GIVD ID SA-BO-005) record floristic ecological data vegetation. In first stage, database hosts 320 relevés from one most unique biogeographical units country, Chaco. total, 633 belonging 114 families have been recorded. Data on vegetation structure, soil, flooding regime geomorphology also stored. following nine structural types were identified: (1) deciduous forests alluvial plains well moderately drained soils; (2) semideciduous Chaco transitional Andes; (3) sclerophyllous Cerrado thorn-woodlands shrublands (Abayoy); (4) xeromorphic thorn shrubland thickets vertic, poorly (5) woodlands savannas sand dunes aeolian surfaces; (6) freshwater swamp forests; (7) saltwater (8) phreatophytic (9) Chiquitania. Further steps will be incorporate new already recorded field such as Altiplano shrublands, Andean wetlands, Polylepis forests, dry inter-Andean valleys. Taxonomic reference : Jørgensen et al. (2015).
